FX2 Entry Form

Dear Photographers,                                                                                                September 23, 2016

Thank you all for a wonderful photo show in 2015. We are still getting compliments and questions about how to participate.  With that – and a few changes and challenges in mind, we sent out a very early “SAVE THE DATE” for Fx2 2016 last November. This is the follow up. Your work will be featured as the 2016 holiday exhibit here at the AHACC and are a part of the Christmas Holiday Tour, organized by the Clifton Forge Woman’s club. We think your photos would make wonderful gifts!

We welcome up to four entries per person, the fee will still be $5 per entry. Center commission on sales will still be 30% of the retail price.  The usual entry information sheet is attached along with entry forms. Entries will be due Saturday November 26 and Sunday November 27; the show will open Nov 30. The Center is on the Clifton Forge Woman’s Club Home Holiday Tour on December 3. We are still trying to work out an evening for you all to get together and see the show as we have done in the past, but we’ll have to pass that information along when you bring your work!  All those details are on the entry form on the next page.

Over the years, judges consistently mention the presentation of work as a common problem. They all encourage a neutral presentation that enhances focus on the photograph, not colorful matting or a fancy “foo-foo” frame.  If someone notices the frame and mat first, they are not seeing your wonderful work. We encourage you to bring an image large enough to enjoy– preferably at least 8×10”, with a neutral mat (off white, white, cream or pale gray.) Save the colors for the liner on a double mat or the interior decorators! We must have a WIRED frame-no easel backs or keyholes, please. Feel free to use one of the contemporary “standouts,” metal or wood, and the frames from the big box discount stores are fine. Remember to keep the wire at least 2 full inches below the top edge of the frame. We have some written directions and will do a couple of presentation workshops and matt cutting classes in October, so keep an eye on our website.

With that in mind we have been thinking of some ways to keep the show fresh. We will keep several of the previous categories: Black-White/Toned; Show or Stop Motion; Portrait (human or animal); Landscape and Architecture will become separate categories.

TWO NEW CATEGORIES WILL BE THEMATIC:

“Winter Solstice/Holiday”.  This could be any sign of the season–Christmas/Thanksgiving/Hannukkah, the winter solstice, family traditions (gone awry or warm and fuzzy.) This is one of the two new categories mentioned in our letter of last November, in hopes that you could get some photos during the last holiday.

Transportation (planes, feet, bicycles, motorcycle, trains, auto, boats, drone flight, skate boards, skis (water and snow) —well, you get the idea.

On top of everything else, let’s remember to think a bit outside the box, reach outside your comfort zone and look for something that will help our viewers see your very special visions. Let viewers know what you felt was so special and unique about the shot that you HAD to take it!

Feel free to share this information with another photographer.  If you have the name and contact information (both email and postal address) for someone we should add to the list, let us know.  Meanwhile, all the paperwork is attached. If you have it complete when you come, it speeds the process along.

Fx2: A REGIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT 2016

This exhibit focuses on the work of area photographers working in traditional film and/or digital imaging and is open to the public November 30-December 28.

Awards: Best In Show ($100);  First Place ($50); Second Place ($25) and Honorable Mention (ribbon only) in each of the following categories: 1) Black & White/Toned;  2) Portraits (either people or animals);  3) Show Motion;  4) Landscape; 5) Architecture; 6) Winter Solstice  (This could be any sign of the season-Christmas/Thanksgiving/Hannukkah, the winter solstice, family traditions (gone awry or warm and fuzzy); and 7)Transportation (planes, feet, bicycles, motorcycle, trains, auto, boats, skate boards, skis (water and snow).

Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judge. Should the judge deem there is no work of suitable merit, or if there is only one work in a given category, no award will be made.  A People’s Choice Award ($25), voted on by visitors, will be announced at the end of the show.

DELIVERY: Saturday November 26 10-5:30 and Sunday, November 27, 1-4.  

PICK UP:  Wednesday December 28 10-4:30. The Center is closed to the public from December 20-Jan 17 for inventory and carpet cleaning etc. UNCLAIMED WORK WILL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE ART CENTER. WE DO NOT HAVE STORAGE SPACE.  IF YOU CANNOT PICK UP YOUR WORK, PLEASE SEND SOMEONE IN YOUR PLACE!  NO EARLY REMOVAL BY ARTISTS. 

Entry Procedure

All artists must be age 18 or older. Limit 4 entries per artist. A fee of $5.00 per entry is to be paid upon check-in.  Make checks payable to AHACC.

  • All work should have been completed within the last 2 years and NOT PREVIOUSLY SHOWN at the AHACC.
  • Work must be 30” or less in either direction. It must be framed and ready to hang with wire attached. No chains, easel backs, saw tooth hangers, visible staples or clip frames will be allowed. No shrink wrap instead of glass or plexiglass. Photographs should be wired about 1/3 down the back of the frame. EXTENDED WIRE MUST rest at least 2” below frame and NOT EXTEND ABOVE THE FRAME IN ANY WAY. IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO REWIRE YOUR WORK OR IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. PLEASE DO NOT USE BLACK MATS. PLEASE BE SURE THE SCREW EYES ARE SECUREIMPROPERLY PRESENTED ENTRIES WILL NOT BE SHOWN.
  • Gallery wraps, “Stand Outs” or cradled panels are acceptable; sides should be a continuation of the image or otherwise finished. Photos printed on paper should be matted and under glass, plexi-glass or have some form of protective coating. Work will be handled with appropriate care; however, the Center is not responsible for loss or damage.

 

SALE OF WORK

  • Work should be realistically priced for sale. The Center will retain 30% of retail price on work sold. One entry may be marked “not for sale” (NFS) but must have an insurance value. If none is given, a default insurance value of $25.00 will be assigned.
  • Work purchased by out-of-area visitors may be removed at the time of purchase; work purchased by local residents will stay with the exhibit through pick up on Wednesday December 28..
  • Work will be handled with appropriate care, but the Center cannot be responsible for loss or damage.

 

NOTE: TO SHORTEN CHECK-IN TIME, PLEASE READ AND COMPLETE PAPER WORK PRIOR TO DELIVERY.

  • PLEASE ATTACH LABELS TO THE LOWER RIGHT FRONT AND LOWER RIGHT BACK OF YOUR WORK (Painters tape will hold labels securely on the glass and is safe for most frames).
