DESCRIPTION:Join us for 6 classes in a course designed for beginners or those needing a little guidance. Beginning March 8 we’ll meet every Tuesday from 10:30-12:30 through April 12. Instructor Brett La Gue will cover materials\, tools\, basic techniques — including color mixing — and how to express your creativity!\n\nBrett has exhibited his energetic paintings(oil & watercolor) and energetic works on paper & canvas across VA in dozens of solo & group presentations. In foul weather La Gue works from his studio\, or turns his eyes to his own yard\, neighborhood and even his cat\, to keep his brush moving & paintings fresh.  Never one to miss a great view\, he has even been known to pay close attention to the various traffic construction stops. “It keeps it from being boring and is a great way to train/exercise your eye when the view is particularly interesting. You have to be quick though–since you never know when they will flag you on!”\nCost: $150 for 6 weeks\, not including supplies (available at the Center or will be emailed upon online registration)\nClass size: Maximum of 10\n\nPlease register by March 5th.

SUMMARY:Plein Air without Panic! with Judith Lochbrunner
DESCRIPTION:A 3-hour class designed to take the fear out of making art outside with a non-traditional twist.   Creating art outside is like putting together a wonderful meal ~ Judith Lochbrunner \nClass 1 “Desert” – paint the fun part to begin with and savor the Main Course – lay out the design. \nClass 2 “Soup” – Determine the Values (lights & darks) \nClass 3 “hors d’oeuvre” – Crafting the finished painting & showing it off with good presentation. \nJudith’s love of plein air (outdoor) painting has combined her love of the outdoors with her love of painting. This class will be limited to 8 students\, and the cost is $125 total for all three dates. We meet promptly at AHACC at 10 am for each class orientation/restrooms/questions and will finish at 1 pm. \n Art Supplies: \n\nViewfinder is a must – you can check YouTube videos on how to make one.\nFolding easel at standing height or large foam core for your lap & towel to cover your legs.\nCamp stool or folding lawn chair\nPaint\, or use markers\, colored pencils\, watercolor pencils\, etc.\nIf needed a small\, medium & large brush.\nPaint palette- take-out shallow pan\, egg carton (plastic or Styrofoam)\nContainer for brushes\, or pencils\, crayons\, markers\, etc.\n8″ x 10″ (max) Painting surface (paper\, canvas board\, gesso prepared panel\, etc.)\n\nPersonal Supplies: Hat with a brim to see color better; Sunscreen; Bug Spray; Water to stay hydrated; Paper towels for clean-up; Spring mornings start out cool-dress in layers.

SUMMARY:The Animal Kingdom in Paint\, Collage & Stencils
DESCRIPTION:This exceptionally fun\, 2-day  class is designed to spark your imagination. Using paint\, pencils\, collage paper and stencils\, we’ll create small animal portraits on watercolor paper. Be it a pampered pet or an endangered species\, we’ll explore ways to create realistic\, humorous\, sassy or sentimental renditions of our animal friends. Robin will show you how to finish and mount your art on birch panels (Robin will provide) that can be hung without needing a frame. Students should bring their own paint & brushes (watercolor or acrylic and one 14×14” piece of w/c paper which we’ll cut into smaller pieces.  Robin will supply other materials to embellish your great animal portraits! \nSaturday\, April 23rd from 10am-3pm & Sunday April 24th from noon-3pm. \nAges 16+ \nCost is $100 with a maximum of 8 students\, so sign up early! \n
