SUMMARY:Basketry with Karen for Adults
DESCRIPTION:Karen Brown is and experienced basket maker and has been making baskets for 40 years.  Her work is on display in the Shop.  Each student will create and take home a 6.5″ X 8″ Muffin Basket. This class will begin on  Wednesday\, March 9th at 10am and last until 3pm\, so be sure to bring a sack lunch and drink. The cost for this class is $45 and all supplies will be provided.

SUMMARY:Gelli Plate Monoprints with Nancy
DESCRIPTION:Gelli plate prints are basically a monoprint that can also be altered with collage materials or incorporated into collages.  Ungraded and “free form\,” our object is to explore and experiment\, not necessarily to have finished product— but you never know! Most will leave with 6-7 pieces. \nA brief introduction-with examples & a demonstration will start at 10:30 & then we will go at it till lunch. After lunch (please brown bag or order out)\, and things dry\, we will share in the group what we have done . Then we’ll start experimenting with how to expand and enhance those images. \nWear clothes you can “play dirty” in. If you don’t want dirty hands \, bring gloves.  Please bring some alcohol based baby wipes to clean the plates between images- and your hands\, and waxed paper so work can be stacked gently to take home. \nThis class is Saturday\, March 26\, 2022\,  10:30 am-3:30pm and the cost is $45\,  most materials are supplied. Age 16 and up.  Minimum 3 maximum 6. \nNancy Newhard\, Curator at AHACC is the instructor for this class. Nancy’s educational background includes MS from Radford University\, BS from Longwood University\, and studies at Hollins University.

DESCRIPTION:SO SORRY-THIS CLASS IS SOLD OUT! \n*However if you are interested please email an inquiry to be added to the list for the next class.*\nIf you’ve experimented with alcohol inks before\, but would like to learn some more techniques\, this would also be a great class! \nThis class introduces students (14+) to alcohol inks and all the possibilities they offer.  With the guidance of Fredericksburg artist Jennifer Galvin\, you will be using alcohol inks to create beautiful\, colorful pieces of artwork to take home.  You don’t have to “be an artist” to create a masterpiece! Alcohol ink is easy to work with and looks great when you are finished.  Even beginners will enjoy this workshop. Jennifer will bring yupo paper\, tiles and some 4×6 canvases so you can see how the ink works on different surfaces.  We’ll start by experimenting with the inks and color\, then learn some techniques for controlling the ink to make it do what you want it to.  Everyone will go home home with a lovely tile fit for framing\, (or to use as a trivet or coaster). \nDate of class Sat. DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint your own Barn Quilt with Pam Hirt.  This is an image of her First Place Award from the 2021 WV State Fair.  Pam began needlepoint & embroidery in middle school\, and later discovered cross stitch and fell in love!  Barn Quilts have become her new love\, and the gridding involved is much like that of cross stitch only on a much larger scale.  Rather than using traditional quilt patterns\, Pam designs her own Barn Quilts. \nThis 2-day class will take place on July 26th & 27th from 11am-3pm.  There will be room for 8 students (16+)\, so register early!  The cost is $90\, and Pam supplies most of the materials. \nHere is what you need to bring: A favorite quilt pattern of your choosing (6 colors or less\,*Pam will supply black & white); Sample size outdoor paints (semi-gloss or satin is ok/NOT Valspar Brand); 1″ Yellow or Purple  Painters Tape; 1″ Angled Brush & a small brush for touch-ups.

DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS SESSION IS CANCELED. \nA 3-hour class designed to take the fear out of making art outside. \nClass dates: Aug 13th & 27th. This class will be limited to 8 students\, and the cost is $85 total. We meet promptly at AHACC at 9:30 am for each class orientation/restrooms/questions and will finish at 12:30 pm.\nArt Supplies:\nViewfinder is a must – you can check YouTube videos on how to make one.\nFolding easel at standing height or large foam core for your lap & towel to cover your legs.\nCamp stool or folding lawn chair\nPaint\, or use markers\, colored pencils\, watercolor pencils\, etc.\nIf needed a small\, medium & large brush.\nPaint palette- take-out shallow pan\, egg carton (plastic or Styrofoam)\nContainer for brushes\, or pencils\, crayons\, markers\, etc.\n8″ x 10″ (max) Painting surface (paper\, canvas board\, gesso prepared panel\, etc.)\nPersonal Supplies: Hat with a brim to see color better; Sunscreen; Bug Spray; Water to stay hydrated; Paper towels for clean-up; Spring mornings start out cool-dress in layers. \nJudith’s love of plein air (outdoor) painting has combined her love of the outdoors with her love of painting. SUMMARY:Gelli Monoprint & Beyond Workshop with Nancy Newhard
DESCRIPTION:August 19th (10:30am-4:30pm)  This printmaking is a fast easy way to learn the basics of printmaking. Use art elements and principals of design to create one-of-a-kind prints that work up very quickly using provided paints and tools. We’ll do some with just color\, try some stencils\, add bits of collage once they are dry (they dry very quickly). We’ll do a basic plate and then start experimenting. Wear clothes to “play dirty!” come ready to experiment. Cleanup is simple with baby wipes\, but all the art tools will be provided. Please bring a brown bag lunch or a snack-once started you may not want to stop! Best for ages 14+\, no experience necessary. No cell phones\, please. \nNancy Newhard\, Curator at AHACC is the instructor for this class. Nancy’s educational background includes MS from Radford University\, BS from Longwood University\, and studies at Hollins University. She has been a Council Member with the VA Assoc. of Museums\, and other memberships include VA & Baltimore Watercolor Societies\, Smithsonian Assoc.\, Taubman Museum\, and Virginia Museum.
