SUMMARY:"DIP YOUR TOES IN THE POUR" - Libby Burger
DESCRIPTION:Paint pouring is a way to create beautiful wall art and home décor for your home.  Acrylic paint pouring is a type of fluid art.  It consists of pouring different color paints over a surface.  The entire canvas is then tilted to allow the paint to flow in different directions to cover the edge of the canvas. \nA description of the types of pours will be reviewed at the beginning of class.  Samples will be provided for the students to view.  Students will create an abstract painting using an acrylic pour on a 9″ X 12″ canvas. They will select the colors desired and the type of pour they wish to use.  All supplies will be provided.  Libby is encouraging age 10 into adulthood to come try this fun medium.  The cost is $35 and agrees to a limit of 8 students.  The date of this class is March 25th from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. \nLibby calls herself  “a jack of all trades – a master of none”!  Since retirement she began to delve into the arts.  She is a student herself\, taking various classes in different mediums\, especially watercolor and acrylic.  However with acrylic pouring she is self-taught through online demonstrations and classes.

SUMMARY:Barn Quilt Painting-"Company's Coming"
DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint your own Barn Quilt with Pam Hirt.  Pam began needlepoint & embroidery in middle school\, and later discovered cross stitch and fell in love!  Barn Quilts have become her new love\, and the gridding involved is much like that of cross stitch only on a much larger scale.  Rather than using traditional quilt patterns\, Pam designs her own Barn Quilts. \nThis 3-day class will take place on November 14th\, 15th & 16th from 5:30 pm-9:30 pm.  There will be room for 8 students (16+)\, so register early!  The cost is $100\, and Pam supplies all of the materials except 1″ angled brushes that you need to bring. \n

SUMMARY:Blooming Christmas Ornaments- Jennifer Galvin
DESCRIPTION:This class introduces students to plantable paper and all of the fun of using recycled materials to make beautiful Christmas ornaments. With the guidance of Jennifer Galvin\, we will be using recycled mat board to create beautiful ornaments embedded with seeds. Even beginners will enjoy this workshop. If you’ve been interested in learning how to work with plantable paper\, this class is for you!  Jennifer will bring all of the supplies for students to make pulp and then make plantable ornaments. Everyone will go home with a few paper ornaments with seeds inside. Feel free to bring your own cookie cutters if you want a particular shape for your ornament\, otherwise\, all materials will be provided. Class limited to 12. \nVirginia based artist\, Jennifer Galvin\, reclaims discarded material and gives it new life—old t-shirts\, jeans\, and mat board are transformed into intricate works of art. Jennifer has been making paper since 2002 and has a degree in art from Oregon State University. Jennifer also enjoys working in alcohol ink and has been working in this medium since 2016.  Jennifer Galvin has 25+ years of experience in art instruction. Jennifer has taught art to people of all ages in printmaking\, papermaking\, alcohol ink\, and painting. Jennifer is currently on the Artists Roster at the Virginia Commission for the Arts. http://www.arts.virginia.gov/roster_Jen_Galvin.html  Jennifer’s pulp paintings have been shown regionally\, nationally\, and internationally\, and have won several awards in National Juried Exhibitions. DESCRIPTION:This class introduces students to alcohol inks and all the possibilities of the inks. With the guidance of Jennifer Galvin\, we will be using alcohol ink to create a beautiful\, colorful piece of art work to take home. You don’t have to be an artist to create a masterpiece; alcohol ink is easy to work with and looks great when you’re finished! Even beginners will enjoy this workshop. If you’ve been interested in learning how to work with alcohol ink\, this workshop is for you! Jennifer will bring photo paper\, yupo paper and tiles for all participants to practice on\, so you can see how the ink works on different surfaces. We’ll start with experimenting with the inks and color\, and then learn some techniques for controlling how to make the ink do more of what you want it to do. Everyone will go home with a lovely tile fit for framing\, or your tile can be used as a trivet or coaster—perfect for a gift! Class limited to 10. \nVirginia based artist\, Jennifer Galvin\, reclaims discarded material and gives it new life—old t-shirts\, jeans\, and mat board are transformed into intricate works of art. Jennifer has been making paper since 2002 and has a degree in art from Oregon State University. Jennifer also enjoys working in alcohol ink and has been working in this medium since 2016.  Jennifer Galvin has 25+ years of experience in art instruction. Jennifer has taught art to people of all ages in printmaking\, papermaking\, alcohol ink\, and painting. Jennifer is currently on the Artists Roster at the Virginia Commission for the Arts. http://www.arts.virginia.gov/roster_Jen_Galvin.html  Jennifer’s pulp paintings have been shown regionally\, nationally\, and internationally\, and have won several awards in National Juried Exhibitions. SUMMARY:Gelli Monoprint & Beyond Workshop with Nancy Newhard
DESCRIPTION:August 19th (10:30am-4:30pm)  This printmaking is a fast easy way to learn the basics of printmaking. Use art elements and principals of design to create one-of-a-kind prints that work up very quickly using provided paints and tools. We’ll do some with just color\, try some stencils\, add bits of collage once they are dry (they dry very quickly). We’ll do a basic plate and then start experimenting. Wear clothes to “play dirty!” come ready to experiment. Cleanup is simple with baby wipes\, but all the art tools will be provided. Please bring a brown bag lunch or a snack-once started you may not want to stop! Best for ages 14+\, no experience necessary. No cell phones\, please. \nNancy Newhard\, Curator at AHACC is the instructor for this class. Nancy’s educational background includes MS from Radford University\, BS from Longwood University\, and studies at Hollins University. She has been a Council Member with the VA Assoc. of Museums\, and other memberships include VA & Baltimore Watercolor Societies\, Smithsonian Assoc.\, Taubman Museum\, and Virginia Museum.

SUMMARY:Paint Your Own Barn Quilt
DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint your own Barn Quilt with Pam Hirt.  This is an image of her First Place Award from the 2021 WV State Fair.  Pam began needlepoint & embroidery in middle school\, and later discovered cross stitch and fell in love!  Barn Quilts have become her new love\, and the gridding involved is much like that of cross stitch only on a much larger scale.  Rather than using traditional quilt patterns\, Pam designs her own Barn Quilts. \nThis 2-day class will take place on July 26th & 27th from 11am-3pm.  There will be room for 8 students (16+)\, so register early!  The cost is $90\, and Pam supplies most of the materials. \nHere is what you need to bring: A favorite quilt pattern of your choosing (6 colors or less\,*Pam will supply black & white); Sample size outdoor paints (semi-gloss or satin is ok/NOT Valspar Brand); 1″ Yellow or Purple  Painters Tape; 1″ Angled Brush & a small brush for touch-ups.

DESCRIPTION:Brett LaGue is an award winning artist working in watercolor\, acrylic & oils\, known primarily for his paintings of the Virginia landscape. \nThis class is every Tuesday beginning June 14 – July 19.  Six classes to help artists at any level bring flower paintings to life. You start with simple shapes and end with creating cheery combinations of your favorite flowers! Learn now to create the illusion of soft florals with a minimum of detail and a maximum of enthusiasm. Full painting demos and lots help to see you on your way. Flowers provided for each class. This is a perfect class for anyone with basic watercolor experience. \nThe course is designed for watercolor beginners or those needing a little guidance. \nA suggested materials list: \nBrushes — a quality synthetic sable works fine\n1/2” Aquarelle (has a scrapper on the end)\n1/4” Aquarelle (has a scrapper on the end)\n#6 and #2 rounds \nTube Watercolors— a good student grade is fine\, such as Windsor & Newton “Cotman” or “Turner Professional” (Which often comes in sets that includes these colors and many more).\nCadmium Red Hue\nUltramarine Blue\nCadmium Yellow Hue\nCerulean Blue Hue\nRose Madder Hue (or any bright pink)\nNo genuine Cadmiums needed \nPaper —watercolor pad\, 9×12” minimum. A very good student paper is Canson’s XL watercolor paper. A mixed media sketchbook will also be helpful. \nAdditional supplies —\nPencil\nKneaded eraser\nMixing tray with at least six wells and plenty of mixing space\nSmall spray bottle for water \nClass size: Maximum of 10 \nCost: $150 for 6 weeks\, not including supplies
