You start with simple shapes and end with creating cheery combinations of your favorite flowers! Learn now to create the illusion of soft florals with a minimum of detail and a maximum of enthusiasm. Full painting demos and lots help to see you on your way. Flowers provided for each class. SUMMARY:Paint a Barn Quilt
DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint your own Barn Quilt with Pam Hirt.  This is an image of her First Place Award from the 2021 WV State Fair.  Pam began needlepoint & embroidery in middle school\, and later discovered cross stitch and fell in love!  Barn Quilts have become her new love\, and the gridding involved is much like that of cross stitch only on a much larger scale.  Rather than using traditional quilt patterns\, Pam designs her own Barn Quilts.\nThis 2-day class will take place on May 14th & 21st from 11am-2pm.  There will be room for 8 students (16+)\, so register early!  The cost is $90\, and Pam supplies most of the materials.\nHere is what you need to bring: A favorite quilt pattern of your choosing (6 colors or less\,*Pam will supply black & white); Sample size outdoor paints (semi-gloss or satin is ok/NOT Valspar Brand); Yellow or Purple 1″ Painters Tape; 1″ Angled Brush & a small brush for touch-ups.

Robin will show you how to finish and mount your art on birch panels (Robin will provide) that can be hung without needing a frame. DESCRIPTION:A 3-hour class designed to take the fear out of making art outside with a non-traditional twist.   Creating art outside is like putting together a wonderful meal ~ Judith Lochbrunner \nClass 1 “Desert” – paint the fun part to begin with and savor the Main Course – lay out the design. \nClass 2 “Soup” – Determine the Values (lights & darks) \nClass 3 “hors d’oeuvre” – Crafting the finished painting & showing it off with good presentation. \nJudith’s love of plein air (outdoor) painting has combined her love of the outdoors with her love of painting. Instructor Brett La Gue will cover materials\, tools\, basic techniques — including color mixing — and how to express your creativity!\n\nBrett has exhibited his energetic paintings(oil & watercolor) and energetic works on paper & canvas across VA in dozens of solo & group presentations. In foul weather La Gue works from his studio\, or turns his eyes to his own yard\, neighborhood and even his cat\, to keep his brush moving & paintings fresh.  Never one to miss a great view\, he has even been known to pay close attention to the various traffic construction stops. “It keeps it from being boring and is a great way to train/exercise your eye when the view is particularly interesting. SUMMARY:Gelli Plate Monoprints with Nancy
DESCRIPTION:Gelli plate prints are basically a monoprint that can also be altered with collage materials or incorporated into collages.  Ungraded and “free form\,” our object is to explore and experiment\, not necessarily to have finished product— but you never know! Most will leave with 6-7 pieces. \nA brief introduction-with examples & a demonstration will start at 10:30 & then we will go at it till lunch. After lunch (please brown bag or order out)\, and things dry\, we will share in the group what we have done . Then we’ll start experimenting with how to expand and enhance those images. \nWear clothes you can “play dirty” in. If you don’t want dirty hands \, bring gloves.  Please bring some alcohol based baby wipes to clean the plates between images- and your hands\, and waxed paper so work can be stacked gently to take home. \nThis class is Saturday\, March 26\, 2022\,  10:30 am-3:30pm and the cost is $45\,  most materials are supplied. Age 16 and up.  Minimum 3 maximum 6. \nNancy Newhard\, Curator at AHACC is the instructor for this class. Nancy’s educational background includes MS from Radford University\, BS from Longwood University\, and studies at Hollins University.

DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been wondering about how to work with alcohol inks\, this is the class for you! \nThis class introduces students to alcohol inks and all the possibilities they offer.  With the guidance of Fredericksburg artist Jennifer Galvin\, you will be using alcohol inks to create beautiful\, colorful pieces of artwork to take home.  You don’t have to “be an artist” to create a masterpiece! Alcohol ink is easy to work with and looks great when you are finished.  Even beginners will enjoy this workshop. Jennifer will bring yupo paper\, tiles and some 4×6 canvases so you can see how the ink works on different surfaces.  We’ll start by experimenting with the inks and color\, then learn some techniques for controlling the ink to make it do what you want it to.  Everyone will go home home with a lovely tile fit for framing\, (or to use as a trivet or coaster) Perfect for a Valentine’s Day gift. \nDate of class Sat. DESCRIPTION:*THIS CLASS HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR APRIL\nLois has been making Christmas Fabric Ball Ornaments for many years\, and they always sell out in the Shop!  One of her hand-crafted Christmas ornaments was selected in 2018 to represent Clifton Forge\, VA\, on the Christmas tree at the Governor’s Executive Mansion.  In this class\, Lois is going to teach us how to create these beautiful ornaments for your 2022 Christmas Tree\, or to give away as a gift!  The Fabric Ball workshop will take place on January 29th from 10 am to 1 pm.
