DESCRIPTION:Join us for 6 classes in a course designed for beginners or those needing a little guidance. Beginning March 8 we’ll meet every Tuesday from 10:30-12:30 through April 12. Instructor Brett La Gue will cover materials\, tools\, basic techniques — including color mixing — and how to express your creativity!\n\nBrett has exhibited his energetic paintings(oil & watercolor) and energetic works on paper & canvas across VA in dozens of solo & group presentations. In foul weather La Gue works from his studio\, or turns his eyes to his own yard\, neighborhood and even his cat\, to keep his brush moving & paintings fresh.  Never one to miss a great view\, he has even been known to pay close attention to the various traffic construction stops. “It keeps it from being boring and is a great way to train/exercise your eye when the view is particularly interesting. SUMMARY:Gelli Plate Monoprints with Nancy
DESCRIPTION:Gelli plate prints are basically a monoprint that can also be altered with collage materials or incorporated into collages.  Ungraded and “free form\,” our object is to explore and experiment\, not necessarily to have finished product— but you never know! Most will leave with 6-7 pieces. \nA brief introduction-with examples & a demonstration will start at 10:30 & then we will go at it till lunch. After lunch (please brown bag or order out)\, and things dry\, we will share in the group what we have done . Then we’ll start experimenting with how to expand and enhance those images. \nWear clothes you can “play dirty” in. If you don’t want dirty hands \, bring gloves.  Please bring some alcohol based baby wipes to clean the plates between images- and your hands\, and waxed paper so work can be stacked gently to take home. \nThis class is Saturday\, March 26\, 2022\,  10:30 am-3:30pm and the cost is $45\,  most materials are supplied. Age 16 and up.  Minimum 3 maximum 6. \nNancy Newhard\, Curator at AHACC is the instructor for this class. Nancy’s educational background includes MS from Radford University\, BS from Longwood University\, and studies at Hollins University.

SUMMARY:Basketry with Karen for Adults
DESCRIPTION:Karen Brown is and experienced basket maker and has been making baskets for 40 years.  Her work is on display in the Shop.  Each student will create and take home a 6.5″ X 8″ Muffin Basket. This class will begin on  Wednesday\, March 9th at 10am and last until 3pm\, so be sure to bring a sack lunch and drink. The cost for this class is $45 and all supplies will be provided.

SUMMARY:Beginning Alcohol Ink Creative Techniques-Jennifer Galvin
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been wondering about how to work with alcohol inks\, this is the class for you! \nThis class introduces students to alcohol inks and all the possibilities they offer.  With the guidance of Fredericksburg artist Jennifer Galvin\, you will be using alcohol inks to create beautiful\, colorful pieces of artwork to take home.  You don’t have to “be an artist” to create a masterpiece! Alcohol ink is easy to work with and looks great when you are finished.  Even beginners will enjoy this workshop. Jennifer will bring yupo paper\, tiles and some 4×6 canvases so you can see how the ink works on different surfaces.  We’ll start by experimenting with the inks and color\, then learn some techniques for controlling the ink to make it do what you want it to.  Everyone will go home home with a lovely tile fit for framing\, (or to use as a trivet or coaster) Perfect for a Valentine’s Day gift. \nDate of class Sat. SUMMARY:Whiskey Bottle Painting with Nancy Smith
DESCRIPTION:We will be painting a Fall or Halloween scene.  Using paint and sharpie pens\, each student will learn to paint on a whiskey bottle.  The next day after each project has baked overnight and the paint has set\, the bottles will be available for pick-up.\nThis class will be on Oct. 2 (11 am – 2 pm) and is limited to 3-10 students.  The cost is $25 and all supplies will be provided.  Please register below by 9/30/21 to ensure a spot!\nNancy Smith has been teaching and painting on unique materials for over 35 years.  Several of her projects are displayed at Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center\, Inc.

DESCRIPTION:The objective of this class is learning how to put together gems on wire to make the form of a tree.  Such as the one pictured here.  The class is open to anyone 15 years old and up\, and will be held on September 18th from 1 pm to 4 pm.  All materials will be provided and the cost is $30.  Please register below by September 11th to ensure your spot.\nLois is one of the artists featured in the Shop here at Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center.  She lives in Botetourt County and draws inspiration from the mixed forest surrounding her log home.  Lois continues to explore new and challenging material to capture the form and essence of her subjects.

SUMMARY:"Regular Gnomes" Needle Felting with Karen Shapcott
DESCRIPTION:Needle felting is a way to create all sorts of fun critters & characters. For this class\, Staunton fiber artist Karen Shapcott will help us create gnomes on September 4.\nFee for the class is $35 and all materials (including the needles) will be provided.\n\nClass will start at 10:30 in the AHACC’s upstairs classroom and we should be done and out by 12:30 (except for the laughing).\nAnyone ages 16 and up is welcome.\n\nPlease register by August 28 so we can have supplies ready.
