SUMMARY:Juneteenth Exhibit- "Stalker of Light-a Tribute to Jada Callender"
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Juneteenth exhibit features the work of Jada Callender.  A was dedicated\, passionate\, and artistic photographer Jada’s work could always be identified by her emotional content\, crisp images and ability to “stalk the light’!   She is missed\, but as long as her work is around\, she will not be forgotten.  In 2021\, Jada Callender became a dedicated collaborator with Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance.  This four-year relationship was marked by her beautiful documentation of the company’s work.  Many of the photos in this exhibit have been provided by Shannon’s personal collection and others from family and friends. \nThis exhibit will be in the Gallery from June 17 – July 11. \nThere will be a special performance by Cora Dance among Jada’s photos on June 19th at 4:30pm with a reception to follow. \n \nPlease come by and see this exhibit remembering Jada.  The Gallery is open 7 days. \nHours for the Gallery are: \nMon – Sat from 10am to 4:30pm \n& \nSundays from 1pm – 4pm.

SUMMARY:One-on-One Drawing Lessons
DESCRIPTION:For a limited time (June 23rd – August 8th) the AHACC is offering personalized drawing lessons taught by Sabrina Burks. \nStudents will start by learning the basic principles of drawing and observation techniques. As you progress\, you will receive a more personalize instruction based on your unique interests (i.e. cartoon drawing\, realism\, portraits\, architecture\, caricature etc…). \nStudents can meet for either 1 hour or 2 hours per session. We celebrate Kathy for her unwavering commitment to our community and her dedication to nurturing the creativity of her students.  Her artistic legacy lives on through her former students\, her granddaughter – who has inherited her remarkable talent. “Remembering Kathy…” will run through August 8\, 2025 \nThe Gallery hours are Mon – Sat 10 am – 4:30pm\, and Sundays 1 pm – 4 pm.

SUMMARY:Cyanotype Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Saturday July 16th\, 1-4pm & Sunday July 17th\, 1-3pm\nCost: $50\n12 tickets available\nAges: 15 and older\nAll materials provided\nNo experience necessary\nRegister by July 14th to guarantee your spot \nLearn the techniques of one of the earliest photography processes! In this class you will experiment artistically with both traditional and wet cyanotype methods. \nWhat is Cyanotype? It is a printing process using UV sensitive chemicals and sun exposure that results in a deep blue background with a white image. Cyanotype is technically a type of photography and is one of the earliest photograph technologies! This process was used to create cheap copies of design plans used by architects and engineers.  \nWhat to bring \nWatercolor paper is provided\, however\, you are encouraged to bring additional materials to print on such as: \n\nAny papers you wish to experiment on. \nWhite fabric made of a cotton or natural material (the prints will wash right out of synthetic materials such as polyester) Examples include t-shirts\, tote bags\, table runners\, pillow cases\, table mats\, etc… \nLight wooden surfaces \nLightly colored\, flat stones\n\nSome objects to print with will be available\, however\, you are encouraged to bring your own items which could include:  \n\nTransparent objects (glassware\, photo negatives)\nPressed flowers and leaves \nTrinkets with interesting silhouettes (keys\, nails\, jewelry\, etc.)\n\n

DESCRIPTION:  \nWabi-sabi is a concept that lies at the heart of Japanese culture-an idea that places great value on incompleteness and imperfection.  Participants should be able to complete at least 3 of these during\, with lots ideas and inspiration for more.  Class materials will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own papers\, sketch books for ideas and references.  This class will take place on July 19th from 10am – 4pm.  The cost is $130.  Please register by July 16th. \n \n  \n  \nGina is a working artist and teaches at the Studio School in Roanoke.  She taught at James River High School for more than 20 years\, and teaches at home and in North Carolina. \n

DESCRIPTION:Is not often the public is able to see work from the artist’s own high school work alongside efforts of intensive college years\, examples and demonstrations done while teaching students\, and private works and fulfilled commissions  done as an adult. Thanks to the family and friends of the late Kathy Mason Nicely\, visitors to the AHACC can trace that thread. We celebrate Kathy for her unwavering commitment to our community and her dedication to nurturing the creativity of her students.  Her artistic legacy lives on through her former students\, her granddaughter – who has inherited her remarkable talent. “Remembering Kathy…” will run through August 8\, 2025 \nThe Gallery hours are Mon – Sat 10 am – 4:30pm\, and Sundays 1 pm – 4 pm.
