SUMMARY:Line\, Color\, and a bit of Whimsy: Exhibit by Donald Earley
DESCRIPTION:On display April 23rd to May 17th. Admission is Free.\n Opening April 23 at the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center in Clifton Forge is  a wide-ranging exhibit of works by Donald Earley\, of Clintonville\, WV. Line\, Color and a Bit of Whimsey includes printmaking\, painting and drawing as well as some mixed media works. The Center is open 10-4:30\, Tues-Saturday until the May 1st when summer hours add Mondays from 10-4:30 and Sundays from 1-4pm.\n There are plenty of techniques and ideas to explore here\,  from the classical to  contemporary. Come see what you think. Donald Earley’s exhibit will continue through May 17. Admission is free.\n  \n  \nArtist Statement: In search of inspiration\, I am sitting on a rock. There I question my ability\, trying to find the truth in myself\, as well as my work. I see\, but I do not understand. Can I find the truth? I am excited — this is my inspiration. Questions and answers — I have questions to all. These are my dreams\, my loneliness\, and my peace of mind. I sit and Wonder — with all of this I draw. When I look at my work\, I feel like I am living on the edge of life\, holding a butterfly net\, trying to catch my dreams as they go by — I am a romantic. \n-Donald Earley

SUMMARY:Going Forth: Exhibit by Charlie Brouwer
DESCRIPTION:EXHIBIT OPEN MAY 22 THROUGH JUNE 14\, 2024.\nGoing Fourth\, an exhibit of charcoal drawing by Artist Charlie Brouwer of Willis VA\, is his response to suddenly becoming blind in the fall of 2022. His condition meant he was unable to drive or read and could not use power tools to construct the wood sculptures he’d been creating for 40 years. As his wife drove him here and there\, he looked out the window at the dark silhouettes of trees against the winter sky. The trees spoke to him in many ways\, reminding him of strength\, resilience\, calmness\, patience and quiet acceptance of the way things can be overcome by their beauty. He began drawing them with charcoal- charcoal that comes from trees. “The exhibit is about trees and going forth from where we are\, with whatever we have to seek beauty\, truth\, and goodness wherever we can find them.” This exhibit is immersive and strong\, full of quiet beauty and heart. \nThere will be a reception to meet the artist on Sunday\, June 2 from 2-4 pm. Admission is FREE.\nArt Center hours: Monday- Saturday 10am to 4:30pm and Sunday 1-4pm \n  \n
