This exhibit will be in the gallery from August 29th through October 12th.
Lori McMahon’s paintings illustrate the transition from concrete reality to the more abstract shapes that lie beneath. Lori utilizes the precise, smooth nature of gouache (an opaque water-based medium) to create works that illuminate shape and detail. McMahon works in oil, as well as gouache, to achieve recognizable shapes and values found in nature.
“In all cases I am attempting to sense the unique features and atmospheric forces of a place, picking and choosing what to emphasize or de-emphasize. With brush in my hand and my paints and medium in an enamel pan, I lightly sketch out the general placement of objects or shapes I see, and build out subtle, quiet exchanges or bring out small wonders as brighter hues, larger features, or harder-edged shapes.”
For fans of realism, abstraction, and everything in between, this exhibit is for you.
The Gallery is open Mondays – Saturday from 10 am to 4:30 pm & Sundays 1 pm to 4 pm.
